WILLIAMSON - Mingo County 911 received a call for help concerning a man that was allegedly found face down, nonresponsive in an apartment building on Pike Street in Williamson in the early morning hours of Saturday.
According to information released by Williamson City Police Chief C.D. Rockel, Bruce Coleman, who is said to have been in his early 50’s, was found lying on the floor of his apartment in an unresponsive state, and had suffered contusions and lacerations to his head and facial area. Neighbors began CPR on the victim until EMS arrived on scene from the Williamson Fire Department and STAT Ambulance.
Coleman was transported to the emergency room of the Williamson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead after attempts to revive him proved to be unsuccessful.
Coleman’s neighbors reportedly gave statement to law enforcement regarding the victim’s behavior and demeanor leading up to his death, allegedly saying he had been inebriated for the majority of Friday afternoon and evening. According to the police report, circumstances involving the death have been ruled as suspicious in nature and remain under investigation.
The body was transported to the WV State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy, and the chief is hoping to receive those preliminary results before the week is over. Additional information concerning the death will be released to the public as it becomes available.
