NOLAN – Longtime Nolan Freewill Baptist Pastor Ray Taylor dedicated the future site of the Nolan Christian Academy (NCA) on Friday morning.
Board members on the NCA and others of the church’s congregation gathered for the ground breaking.
Ironically the new Christian school will be built at the site of the old Nolan Grade School, which is located next to the church. The private school began two years ago and continues to grow.
Several students have already pre-registered to start classes next fall. The current classes are being held in the auxiliary building of the church.
“I appreciate Brother Ray (Taylor) and the church for having a vision,” said Assistant Pastor Earl White. “God blessed us to obtain this property a few years ago. Everything has fallen into place.”
The church bid on the property after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood proofing project back in the early 1990s was completed. They also purchased a large parcel of land across the street from the church which has a picnic shelter and playground.
“We hope to get more students in the future,” White said. The school had an awards presentation for the current enrollment before the dedication and ground breaking was held.
“The church has had a great desire to start a school and teach the children about the Lord Jesus,” Taylor said at the ground breaking. “We are happy today to be here for the dedication of the new school - so that we can put the Lord first in our life.”
The new building will have four large classrooms, office spaces and a teacher’s work area. Phase two of the project will be the construction of a gymnasium and cafeteria in a second structure. The new building will be able to accommodate 100 students.
