PRESTONSBURG — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday during a town hall meeting at Highlands Regional Medical Center that he didn’t see much opportunity to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” if President Obama wins reelection in November.

McConnell, who was touring the area, and stopped briefly to speak to a largely medical professional audience, said Obamacare would likely continue under a second term of the president. “You learn pretty early in school that elections have consequences. If you win you get to make policy, if you lose you go home.”

According to the senator, PPACA was the first serious piece of social change legislation that was passed on a strictly partisan level. He described those benefited by the legislation, the more than 30 million people without insurance, as being the young who choose not to have insurance and the poor who can not afford it. McConnell said the federal mandate makes the issue very complex, and called PPACA a “huge mistake,” and something he hopes can be corrected.

During the informal speech, Sen. McConnell said that if the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, is elected then it will be far more likely a repeal attempt would be successful. As a replacement for PPACA, McConnell said that he would likely push to create national insurance competition which would help drive down costs, while at the same time maintaining a level of quality.

McConnell also said that the issue of tort reform in medical malpractice suits is also worth looking at as a way to lower the costs associated with medical treatment.

Though there wasn’t a great deal about the current plan that McConnell said he liked, he did identify the rule of a 26-year-old being allowed to remain on their parents insurance, and not allowing insurers to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, as aspects of the current law that would likely be carried over to any replacement at the federal level. “The balance of it I believe ought to be handled at the state level,” said McConnell.

Also briefly touched upon was the national debt, saying that any serious discussion of reducing the national debt was going to have to delve into the current level of entitlements. He stated that 60 percent of the current federal budget is spent on making payments against the country’s debt, and funding entitlement programs.

Barack Obama has been a terrible disaster. Let's look at Obama's record:

AFTER taking office from Bush, yes, things were bad, AFTER four years, with Obama controlling BOTH Houses of Congress the first two, and the Senate the last two, we have:

$4 to $5 dollar per gallon gasoline; doubled under Obama.

A real world U6 jobless number of 15%; that is Great Depression levels;

OVER 5 TRILLION ADDED to our national debt;

TRILLION dollar deficits EVERY YEAR;

A government takeover of health care that cost well over one TRILLION dollars, that few wanted, that will raise premiums and force you into a government exchange; you will lose your doctor, and your choice;

Dr. Obama WILL get to appoint, by law, a 15 member board to decide who gets care, and what care is offered; THIS is the Death Panel spoken of;

A world in turmoil; look at how Obama bungled Libya and Egypt;

The Fast and Furious Scandal, where Obama gave automatic weapons to Mexican drug cartels to kill hundreds with;

An economy stuck in the mud; no job creation; no plan to help or fix anything.

Bill Clinton, quoted in a book called The Amateur, said Barack Obama is a rank amateur who has no business being president. Clinton was 100% correct.

Senator McConnell stated, shortly after we, the people, elected Barack Obama president in '08, that the primary goal of the Teapublican party was to deny the president a second term. He has wasted the last four years in a futile effort to achieve this nefarious goal, being an obnoxious obstructionist,rather than participating in a bipartisan effort to improve the lot of those not among the 2% who control 90% of the wealth in this country. Every developed nation in the civilized world world has, in place, a universal health care system structured to provide care for all citizens therein. Our neighbor to the north, Canada, has a single payer system which is applauded as a model for the entire world. To the south, in Mexico, for the modest sum of $300.00, a resident is entitled to complete health care for life---no ifs, ands, buts or maybes. No developed nation in Europe or Scandinavia is without "socialized" health care. Even Cuba, our neighbor to the south, provides health care for all citizens. So far, no country has bankrupted as a result of these humane programs. Even Jesus healed the sick, without charge, and raised the dead---Obamacare doesn't go quite that far. The only ones who will suffer from the full implementation of the Affordable Health Care Act are the insurance companies,HMOs, usurious, for profit, health care entities and legislators, like Senator McConnell, who is sitting on a ten million dollar reelection fund, most of which was provided by the very people, aforementioned, who stand to lose when we, the 47%, are freed from the onerous grasp and greed of the current system. Do not be deceived, social security, medicare, medicade, veterans' benefits, food stamps, housing assistance, tuition grants and a host of programs created by farsighted and caring leaders such as Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson will be targeted by the GOP, if they take control in Washington. Playing on the ignorance and apathy of the people, McConnell, and his fellow cabalists, have subtlety played on our inate racism and lack of self esteem to twist the rhetoric to their own self interest. Rand Paul, for example, is firmly opposed to medicare, except for the part which pays him over 80% of his income as an eye doctor. Mitt Romney paid less than 15% income tax on 20 million dollars last year. If you are a coal miner, busting your hump, making 50K annually, you'll pay over 20% income tax, no matter what form you use. How's that for fair and balanced? We, the people, would do well to lay down the sports pages and the TV guide, turn off the Fox propaganda network and take heed of what McConnell and his ilk have planned for America. He who hath ears to hear, let him hear. He who hath eyes to see,let him see. That uppity dude in the white house, who has the audacity to govern while Black, cares about this country and the 47%, which is us---you and me! OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!
