WILLIAMSON - Two defendants were taken into custody and arraigned in Mingo County Magistrate Court on charges of grand larceny and conspiracy after allegedly stealing property from property owned by the Mingo County Redevelopment Authority.

According to the criminal complaints filed by Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) Cpl. P. Muncy and Deputy L. Thomas; Jason Marcum, 34, of Kermit and Ronnie Keeton, 44, of West Liberty, Ky., did conspire to enter the property of the Mingo County Redevelopment Authority and proceeded to steal a Ford Ranger, a Plymouth Breeze and a Chevrolet Cadillac valued at over $1,000 each that belonged to the Mingo County Commission. The thefts occurred on Jan. 10th and 11th of this year. Two vehicles were stole on the first day and were taken to a scrap yard in Kentucky and sold for profit. After gaining a sense of “getting away with it the first time”, the men returned the following day to try their luck again, but were caught while in the process of committing the crime.

Both defendants were arraigned before Magistrate Dee Sidebottom and were remanded to the custody of the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden where they remain on a $40,000 bond. The men are scheduled to appear back in court next week for their preliminary hearings.
