WILLIAMSON — This Saturday, the Williamson Farmers Market will host its second preseason market day in preparation for its official opening, and will also have a special flower and plant sale for Mother’s Day in addition to its usual assortment of produce and baked and canned goods.
“On our opening day on April 27, we had a pretty good variety of stuff,” Market Manager, Helen Stanley, said. “We had canned and baked goods, tomatoes off the vine, beets, kale and so on. This week, we expect to have more.”
With the inclusion of its flowers sale, and being two weeks further into the growing season, the Market expects to have a much larger variety on Saturday.
“On April 27, we had over 300 people attend the market,” Stanley said. “It was busy all day, and I hope for the same turnout this week.”
Doug Dudley, one of several vendors who will be set up at the market Saturday, said he would have a wide variety of items available, including both gifts for Mothers Day, as well as produce for regular consumers.
“I will have major varieties of flowers that will make for the perfect Mother’s Day gifts,” Dudley said. “I will have hanging baskets and potted flowers, as well as flats of bedding plants that were grown specifically for this area.”
In addition to the plants, he will have an assortment of fresh vegetables, including sweet potato slips, spinach, mustard greens, green onions and more.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is located on the corner of Second Avenue and Vinson Street across from BB&T Bank.
