WILLIAMSON — Moderate damage to one vehicle and a bent fender on the other resulted from a two-vehicle accident that occurred on U.S. 119 in the southbound lane at the cut-thru on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Williamson City Police Patrolman Darry Paige, James Staten, of Chattaroy, was operating a GMC Colorado truck that collided with the rear of a 1998 Ford Ranger driven by Greg Ramey of S. Williamson, Ky. Staten allegedly failed to stop, which caused the accident. The GMC was damaged on the left side of the bed of the truck and sustained a busted tire as well. The left rear of Ramey’s truck suffered minor damage.

The Williamson Fire Department and Chief Jerry Mounts responded to the scene but said no injuries were reported. The firemen assisted with traffic control and clean-up of debris. A wrecker was called to transport one of the vehicles.

Williamson Police Chief C.D. Rockel asked to remind the public that this stretch of road is an area that has seen many traffic accidents, and encourages everyone to use caution when approaching the traffic lights and to look carefully to make sure there the way is clear before turning onto U.S. Rt. 52. The General Foglesong Bridge is also slick when the temperature dips below freezing and the snowflakes begin to fall, creating the need for decreased speeds.
