RACHEL DOVE-BALDWIN Staff Writer GOODY, Ky. - Police on both sides of the Tug River were put on high alert Tuesday morning at approximately 10:18 a.m., as both Kentucky police officers and those in WV began searching for two males who allegedly robbed the US Bank at Goody., Ky. at gunpoint, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash on a green ATV. “I was over here sitting with my stuff for sale when an ATV shot across the road in front of where I was and pulled right into the bank parking lot,” stated a flea-marketer who asked to not be named in this article. “After a few short minutes, two guys ran out of the bank, jumped on the ATV and went through the grass and got on U.S. 119 and headed toward Williamson.” “That’s all I know – that’s all I seen,” remarked the witness. According to information released from Kentucky State Police (KSP) Director of Communications Trooper S.D. Little and KSP Detective Kevin Newsome, two identified males (one Caucasian, the other of unknown race), one described as wearing dark clothing and one wearing light colored clothing reportedly entered the US Bank at Goody, Ky., brandishing firearms (handguns) and demanded money. No one was injured during the incident, although the robbers left behind a traumatized, shaken bank staff. Details regarding how many employees were present during the robbery or if there were customers inside the financial location are not being released at this time. According to witnesses, the ATV came from the Belfry, Ky. direction, cutting through the grassy area that is typically occupied by individuals who sets up yard sales and flea market across from the Double Quik Gas Station, and went directly into the front parking lot area of the bank. The two men had their faces and heads completely concealed and were said to have been wearing multiple layers of clothing. One was described as being slim, while the other is said to have been of medium build. Unconfirmed reports told to the Daily News stated that a female caller contacted Pike County 911 and said that she thought something “was up” at the US Bank right around the time the robbery is said to have taken place, claiming that she was attempting to do her banking through the drive-thru when the teller allegedly jerked the blind down in the window and told her “I can’t wait on you.” The press release from the KSP stated that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken during the armed robbery, and reports heard from Mingo County 911 dispatchers over the scanner reported that “the safe was pretty well cleaned out”. West Virginia State Police (WVSP) Captain D.M. Nelson was also at the scene and was accompanied by a F.B.I. agent from the Huntington, WV field office, and spoke with the KSP detective and troopers investigating the robbery, offering his assistance and assuring them that he and his department were committed to searching for the armed robbers, should they happen to receive information they were in WV. “We’re available on whatever level they need us,” stated Nelson. “We’ll assist in whatever way we can.” KSP Trooper S. Mounts, Trooper J. Nolte and Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy B. McCoy also assisted with the investigation. KSP Director of Communications S.D. Little told the Daily News that every resource they have will be utilized to solve this crime, and he stated that anyone having information regarding the robbery is encouraged to contact Post 9 of the KSP at 606-433-7711 or 1-800-222-5555. “You don’t have to give us your name, we’re interested in what you may know about this crime,” stated Little. “We’ve learned through the years that the public is your best resource for information and we always welcome your help.” Video surveillance tapes were being reviewed by KSP that may provide useful information regarding the robbery, and employees were interviewed well into the afternoon. The bank plans to reopen for business this morning, barring any unforeseen problems. “It’s crazy that this happened here, right beside of where we were sitting,” stated the witness who spoke with the Daily News. “You usually see this on the news or read about it happening in Charleston or somewhere or over in Pikeville, but not here in S. Williamson.” “I guess this shows that it can happen anywhere.” .
