PIKEVILLE, Ky. - A Perry County man has been indicted by the May Grand Jury serving Pike Circuit Court on five Class A felonies, including four charges of rape and one of sodomy.
Commonwealth Attorney Rick L. Bartley released the list of indictments, showing that Carlos Eric Brock, 37, of Busy, Ky., is accused of four counts of rape, first degree, when he engaged in sexual intercourse with a person then less than 12 years old. A fifth charge, sodomy, first degree, stems from an allegation that Brock engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with a person then under 12 years of age.
The offenses occurred during a period extending from Sept. 1,2000 to Aug. 31,2001, in Pike County, Ky. The grand jury witness in this case was from Kentucky State Police.
Six indictments contained drug-related and other charges, some including theft by unlawful taking, burglary, fraud, escaping custody and bail jumping. Besides KSP witnesses, the grand jury heard evidence presented by officers of the Pikeville Police Department and Pike County Sheriff's Department.
Twenty-two-year-old Paul J. Young of Island Creek, Pikeville, was indicted on two counts of burglary, first degree, and theft by unlawful taking. He allegedly made an unlawful entry into the home of Melissa Little while armed with a deadly weapon. While in the dwelling, he unlawfully exercised control of guns, tools and jewelry valued at $300 or more, the property belonging to Melissa Little.
• Other indictments were as follows:
• Tracy Wooten, 47, while in the Pike County Detention Center in Pikeville Aug. 12, 2008, committed theft by unlawful taking of cash in the amount of $300 or more, which belonged to the Kentucky State Police.
• Kayla L. Sanders, 21, Elkhorn City, Ky., is charged with theft of a controlled substance in an amount greater than $300 and belonging to Nicholas Apothecary; and with theft by unlawful taking of $300 or more in cash belonging to the apothecary on Jan. 1, 2009.
• Mike H. Fields, 31, of Red Creek Road, and Paul Justin Young, 22, of Island Creek, both in the Pikeville area, were jointly indicted on two charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree and fleeing or evading police, first degree on April 23, 2009.
The pair allegedly uttered or possessed two checks in the respective amounts of $340 and $560, to which the name of Valary Sykes had been forged.
Young is separately charged with possession of a quantity of a Schedule I controlled substance (Marijuana), and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both Young and Fields are being charged as persistent felony offenders because of previous convictions of offenses. Fields was convicted in Pike County in 1998 and in 2008 on charges of theft by unlawful taking, second degree burglary and first degree possession of a controlled substance. He received jail sentences ranging from two to 10 years.
Young received jail sentences ranging from one to five years in 2007-2008 on two counts of theft by unlawful taking, and one count each of second degree escape and second degree burglary.
• Amanda J. Hurley, 29, Pikeville, stands indicted on charges of theft by deception, theft by failure to make required disposition of property, and two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
The theft by deception involved obtaining Nintendo Wii items, X-box items and digital cameras in return for cash which the defendant did not own and was not authorized to sell or trade. Count II charged her with obtaining $300 or more and failing to make the require disposition of the cash. The two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card involved intentionally obtaining goods or services exceeding $100 within a six-month period.
• Mitchell E. Thacker, 35, Regina, Ky., is charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants (second offense) and with operating a motor vehicle while license was suspended or revoked for driving under the influence (second or more offense) with aggravator.
• James M. Slone, 19, Pikeville, Ky., was indicted on the offense of theft by unlawful taking or exercising control of a tire and rim valued at $300 or more, which belonged to Carol Cole. The action occurred May 3, 2008.
• Timmy D. Bryant, 45, Pikeville, Ky., was indicted on two counts of trafficking in a Schedule II controlled substance (first degree), on June 11 and 19,2008, respectively.
• Kirby Ingram, 50, of Virgie, Ky., is accused of two counts of trafficking in a Schedule II controlled substance (first degree) on April 21, 2008.
• Jonathan Tackett, 20, Pikeville, Ky., is accused of theft by unlawful taking or exercising control of tools valued at $300 or more on May 2, 2009. The tools belonged to Ivan Thacker.
• James Earl Bowling, 23, Elkhorn City, is charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and fleeing or evading police, second degree. Because of a 2008 conviction of theft by unlawful taking in Pike County and a year's jail sentence, he is being charged with the ' offense of persistent felony offender, second degree.
• Justin D. Sherman, 28, of Minford, Ohio, is indicted on three counts: Trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree, involving a quantity of oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance; trafficking in a controlled substance, third degree, involving a quantity of Xanax and Valium, Schedule IV controlled substances, and with public intoxication, all on May 18,2009.
• Billy Roark, 26, Plat Lick, Ky., allegedly while being charged with or convicted of a felony on May 15, 2009, escaped from a detention facility or from the custody of law enforcement authorities. He is charged with escape, second degree.
Because of three previous convictions in Knox County during the period, 2001 and 2008, he is being charged with the offense of persistent felony offender, first degree. The prior offenses included second degree burglary, third degree burglary and receiving stolen property, with prison sentences meted out for five, three and three years, respectively.
• Ronnie Tackett, 34, of Old Millard Highway, Pikeville, is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree, to which the names of Carl Hackney and Rhonda S. Thacker had been forged on April 22, 2009. He also was charged with public intoxication.
• Debra G. Prater, 26, of Greasy Creek Road, Shelbiana, Ky., is charged with perjury, first degree. Her indictment states she committed the offense when, in an official proceeding on Sept. 17, 2008 and under oath, she made a material false statement.
• Edward Bentley, 30, of Myra, Ky., and Nathan Fletcher, 23, of Clintwood, Va., were jointly indicted on two counts: Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (Cocaine) first degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia on March 18,2009.
• Tara Johnson, 26, Beaver, Ky., is accused of criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree, when, with knowledge that such instrument had been forged, she uttered or possessed checks to which the name of Penny Gray had been forged during the period December 2008 and February 2009.
• Truman Slone Jr., 35, Pikeville, Ky., is accused of first degree bail jumping on May 22, 2009 when, having been previously released from custody by court order upon condition to appear subsequently at a specified time and place in connection with a charge of having committed a felony in Indictment No. 08-CR255, the defendant thereafter failed and refused to appear per orders of the court.
