Military Family Fun Day

WILLIAMSON — Tomorrow is Military Family Fun Day at the Williamson Armory, where a four-star general is scheduled to make an appearance.

The Tug Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Williamson Family Readiness Group have teamed up to honor military family members with some food and fun. The general public is invited to show support for military families by attending the event beginning at 10 a.m., May 2.

There will be free food, games, and entertainment going on until 3 p.m. Door prizes will be available to spouses of service members and to parents of single service members, and prizes will be available for all children.

Williamson native General Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong, retired from the United States Air Force, is scheduled to visit the armory. The former president of Mississippi State University served in the Air Force from April 1972 until retirement in February 2006. He is currently a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.

Earning degrees BSc, MSc and PhD at West Virginia University (WVU) in chemical engineering in 1968, 1969, and 1971 respectively. He holds an honorary Doctorate in Strategic Intelligence, and a Distinguished Alumnus of WVU.

He heads a scholarship program in West Virginia called the Appalachian Leadership and Educational Foundation, which he founded. He helped to establish the Appalachian Leadership Honors Program.
