Alleged drunk driver indicted in death of girlfriend

Manslaughter charges led the list of indictments handed down by the Pike County grand jury last week.

Melvin, Ky., resident Billy Ward, 41, was indicted for DUI, failure to maintain control, second and fourth-degree assault and manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend, Alicia Caudill. Ward and Caudil, 29, were traveling on Penny Road in Virgie, Ky., November 28, 2008, when Ward crossed the center lane and collided with another vehicle. Emergency crews flew Caudill to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., where she was pronounced dead. She left behind seven children, the youngest of whom belonged to Ward, family members reported.

• Anthony Roberts, 24, and Stephanie Webb, 30, both of Virgie, were indicted for theft by unlawful taking for stealing a GPS valued at more than $300 from Kmart and persistent felony offender, having been convicted of offenses in Pike and Montgomery counties.

• Beau Bowling, 21, of Elkhorn City, Ky., indicted for second degree assault against Jordan Price.

• Steven Dotson, 20, of Paw Paw, Ky., Marcus Prater, 18, of Hurley, Va., and Robert Dotson, 32, of Hurley, Va., indicted for first degree robbery and theft by unlawful taking , for taking a gun and cash from Dallas England.

• Timmy Bryant, 45, of Pikeville, Ky., indicted for theft by deception, for giving false information that he had or would execute appropriate documents to affect a change of ownership of a 2003 Chevy in exchange for $1600 and another vehicle which the defendant had received in exchange, the defendant never intending to abide by the terms of the agreement and then unlawfully retaking the 2003 vehicle and keeping all proceeds paid by Gail Hinkle.

• Brandon Blackburn, 27, of Pikeville, indicted for flagrant non support for a minor child.

• Rachel Keen, 29, of Pikeville, indicted for criminal possession of a forged check in the amount of $500.89 to which the mane of Barbara Phillips had been forged and persistent felony offender.

• Daniel Bowens, 21, of Williamson, indicted for second degree rape, for engaging in sexual intercourse with a person less than fourteen years of age.

• Sarah Diamond, 40, of McCarran, Ky., indicted for theft by unlawful taking for taking jewelry worth at least $300 from Crystal Crum.

• Richard Huffman, 32, and Tina Renee Kiser Huffman, 31, both of Pikeville, indicted on four counts for attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud by forging a prescription. Richard Huffman is also charged with persistent felony offender.

• Anthony Roberts, 24, of Virgie, Ky., indicted for taking a television valued at more than $300 from Magic Mart and persistent felony offender.
