Ralph Lewis Shannon, 70, of Gilbert, passed away, on Thursday, March 15, 2012, from Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born on May 1, 1941, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Wells “Coon” and Marie Tabor Shannon.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Tenia Marie Shannon West.

Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a retired businessman and a member of the Justice United Methodist Church. He loved serving the Lord and spending time with his family, his church family and his friends. He was a kind and caring gentleman with a gentle heart and a caring spirit. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, home improvements and doing stained glass. He loved being outdoors and spending time with his animals. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Ralph and to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Carolyn Sue Fortner Shannon of Gilbert; his two sons, Frankie (Liz) Shannon of Lakeville, Minn., and Jon (Rhonda) Shannon of Morgantown; his four grandchildren, Emily, Elliot and Ethan Shannon of Lakeville, and Elizabeth Mason of Washington D.C.; his great-granddaughter, Ava Mason of Washington D.C.; his brother, Tommy (Debbie) Shannon of Astor Fla.; his two sisters, Janie (Rodney) Hatfield of Hanover and Debbie (Paul) Bartram of Gilbert; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Ann (James) Hatfield, Linda (Kerry) Cline and Shirley (Timer) May, all of Gilbert; his best friend, Ruger; and a host of nieces and nephews and other dear relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Sunday, March 18 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, March 19, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Nagy, the Rev. Ralph Reedy and Bro. Timer May officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny.

Pallbearers will be Jimbo Nagy, Todd Hatfield, Jody Shannon, Tramp Shannon, Joey Shannon, Brandon Sammons, Jarrod Hatfield, Keaton West and Michael Maynard. Junior pallbearers will be Logan and Tanner Shannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Timer May, Kerry Cline, James “Buddy” Hatfield, Bill Peak, Paul Bartram, Rodney Hatfield, Doncie Miller, Huey Miller and Danny Shannon.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.
