Pike 4-H’ers to attend Ky. state fair

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Several Pike County students will travel to Louisville to participate at the Kentucky State Fair as part of 4-H.

The club members will be participate through judging events, 4-H projects and competitions.

From Belfry High School: Nancy Maynard will participate in the Senior Avian Bowl, the State Horticultural contest, poultry judging, arts, food and the senior weaving project; Shawna Maynard is competing in the Avian Bowl Quiz, State Horticultural contest, folk art, food, home environment and senior jewelry; Cody Phillips with compete in poultry judging and the State Horticultural contest.

From Belfry Middle School: Allison Lockard will compete in photography; Cory Scott will compete in wood science; Elijah Williamson will compete in embroidery on silk; Dylan Coley in dish garden; Kayla Guage in junior watercolor, junior acrylic and drawing; Brandon Booth in junior black and white drawing; Stephanie Gauze in food.

From Bevins Elementary: Cara Ferrell will compete in photography.

The fair opens Aug. 16, and runs 11 days, celebrating the heritage, history and culture of the Bluegrass State. More than 600,000 people attend the event, which is the country’s largest indoor fair, and uses over 1.2 million square feet of contiguous exhibit space at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
