Personnel changes in Mingo schools

WILLIAMSON – Employment, transfers, leaves of absence and other actions concerning professional and service personnel in the school system were reviewed by the Mingo County Board of Education Tuesday.

The personnel actions were preapproved by the state Board of Education which continues in control of Mingo County’s school system. Employment and other matters included the following:

Professional Personnel:

Regular Program:

• Employed for teaching positions in various schools for the 2009-2010 school year were the following:

Patricia Adams, Grade 2-3, Dingess Elementary; Nicholas Amis, Music, Lenore K-8 (employed initially pending CIB and FBI clearance); Rolando Arredondo Diaz, Spanish, Gilbert High; Johnny Dempsey, Math, Burch High, pending authorization; Meghan Frazier, English, Speech and Theater, Gilbert High.

Melanie Hatfield, English, Gilbert High; Dora Justice, Grade 6, Lenore K-8; Rhonda Newsome, Grade 3-4, Burch Elementary; Sarah Richardson, English, and Joshua Smith, Biology and Physics, both assigned to Matewan High, (employed initially pending CIB and FBI clearance.)

Joshua Tharp, Music, Lenore K-8 (employed initially pending CIB and FBI clearance); Priscilla Gord-euk, Music and Band, Burch High; Michael Grimm, Health and Physical Edu-cation, effective Aug. 31, Williamson Middle, and Jennifer Johnson, Kinder-garten, Dingess Elementary, effective Sept. 1 (both employed pending CIB and FBI clearance).

Nancy Kline, English, Lenore K-8; Sandy Pinson, Special Education (Itinerant BD/AUT), Mingo County schools, and Mary Swafford, Title I, Matewan Elementary, (all three hired pending receipt of authorization); Ashley Tussey, Speech assistant, Mingo County schools.

(Note: Continued employment of those teachers hired pending CIB and FBI clearance is contingent upon issuance of appropriate certification credentials.)

•Teacher transfers were approved as follows:

Stella Brumfield, from teacher of Kindergarten at Dingess Elementary to teacher of Grade 3 at Kermit K-8; Theresa Hanshaw, from instructional coach at Lenore K-8 to Grade 2 teacher at Burch Elemen-tary; Krisin Huddle, from Grade 6 teacher at Matewan Middle to Grade 4 teacher at Matewan Elementary; Timo-thy C. Parker, from Kinder-garten teacher at Gilbert Elementary to Grade 4 teacher, Matewan Elemen-tary.

Karen Paterino, from Grade 2 to Grade 5 teacher at Burch Elementary; Wilma Steele, from Grade 3 teacher at Gilbert Elementary to Art teacher at Gilbert High (pending receipt of permit); Manya Clusky, from teacher of Special Education at Matewan Middle to teacher of Preschool Handicapped, pending receipt of authorization;

Randall Crum, from Special Education teacher at Matewan Elementary to Special Education (Itinerant BD) teacher for Mingo County schools, pending receipt of authorization; Virginia Mounts, from Business teacher at Kermit K-8 and Tug Valley High, to Technology Integration Facilitator for Mingo County schools; and Deborah Starr, from Grade 6 teacher at Lenore K-8 to Grade 1 teacher at Dingess Elemen-tary.

• Extra-Curricular/Extra-Duty program employees:

Donnie Beckett, Zero-Compensation assistant track coach, Williamson High (employed initially pending CIB and FBI clearance with continued employment contingent upon issuance of appropriate certification credential); Pam Chapman, Volleyball coach, Lenore K-8;

Trina Fitzpatrick, Cheer Coach, Kermit K-8; Vivian Joy Phillips, Volleyball Coach, Kermit K-8; Ray Bailey, Golf Coach, Gilbert High; and Joey Fields, Zero-Compensation assistant football coach, Matewan High (pending CIB and FBI clearance with continued employment contingent upon issuance of appropriate certification credential).

Resignations were as follows:

Pamela Francis, as Year-book sponsor, Gilbert High, Aug. 10; Okey Smith, from Girls basketball coach and Boys basketball coach at Kermit K-8, Aug. 21; John Williamson, from Zero-Com-pensation assistant Vol-leyball coach, Tug Valley High, Aug. 25.

Marcella Charles was employed to Mentor Begin-ning Administrators for the current school year.

Employed as substitute teachers for the new school term were Linda Diamond, Laura May, Nicole Stanley, Sue Chaffin and Latisha Johnson.

Also hired as substitute teachers initially pending CIB and FBI clearance were Dian Corn, Stephanie Kirk, Courtney Pigman and Deanna Powers (their continued employnment depending upon issuance of appropriate certification credential).

Three persons employed as Parent Assistant/Parent Educator Resource Center (PERC, under Contracted Services were: Elizabeth Blair, Dingess Elementary; Vanessa Lucas, Lenore K-8, and Sandra Reed, Matewan Elementary.

Resignations reported were those of Megan Dotson, as Speech assistant for Mingo County schools, effective Aug. 12, and Charles Murphy, as teacher at Matewan High, Aug. 24. A medical leave of absence from teacher at Lenore K-8 was granted to Hazel Messer from Aug. 21, 2009 until June 9, 2010.

Erica Newsome did not accept the position of English teacher at Matewan High for the current school term, the board reported.’

Service Personnel actions:

Regular program:

Employed as of Sept. 2, 2009 were Zelda Croaff, as halftime Custodian III, Burch High; Rainella Ellis, as Aide/Autism Mentor, Gilbert Elementary; Marlene McDonald, halftime Cook II, Tug Valley High, and Kathy Thompson, bus operator for the Tug Valley area.

Glenita Booten and Cecilia Staten were assigned as Supervisory Aides at Williamson Middle School under the Extra-Curri-cular/Extra-Duty program for the current school term. They also were employed to perform Specialized Care during the 2009-2010 school year.

Ira Wellman was transferred from Mechanic assistant to Mechanic for Mingo County schools, effective Aug. 17. Employed as substitute bus operators as of Aug. 27 were Constance Figgs, Donald Lawrence and Otis Pinson.

The resignation of Gary Troute as Custodian III at Matewan High was ap-proved as of Aug. 26. Removal of Norma Sprad-lin’s name from the Substitute Aide list was rescinded by the board.

The following were granted medical leaves of absence: Deborah Hall, from Aide, Riverside Elementary, effective from Aug. 25, to Oct. 5, 2009; Nadine Snell, from Cook II, Matewan High, from Aug. 21, 2009 to June 9, 2010; and Tonda Hutchinson, from Custodian III at Lenore K-8, from July 1 to Sept. 19, 2009.

The medical leave of Sherrilynn Cisco from Cook II at Burch High for the period, Aug. 21, 2009 to June 9, 2010 was rescinded.
