Mary Jane Carter, 77, of Varney, WV, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Born February 26, 1933, on Pond Creek, KY; she was the daughter of the late Monroe Carter and Elsie Williams Carter Horn. Mary was a former business lady and waitress, but most importantly, she was a Jesus' Name minister and faithful member of the Jesus' Name Church. Survivors include two brothers; Thomas Horn of Frankfort, KY and Charles Carter of Varney, WV; three sisters, Billie Jean Roberts of Kitts Hill, OH, Betty Farley of Versailles, KY, and Gloria Evans of Varney, WV; and a host of friends and church family from near and far. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday; January 12, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Butch White, Greg Brown, and Jimmy Fletcher officiating. David Dean
David Lee Dean, 47, of Matewan, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Stopover, Ky. Born March 18, 1964, he was the son of Barbara Ann Hinkle Dean and the late Franklin Dean. He was a truck driver. He is survived by sons Valois, Lyle, David Jr. and John Dean, daughters Tiffany and Teresa, brothers Ronald, Kenneth and Gordon, sisters Pam, Deborah and Rhonda, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at the Chambers Funeral Home Chapel in Matewan. Burial will follow at the Dean Cemetery at Varney. Ethel M. Hager, 52, of Goodman Hollow, Williamson, WV passed away Jan. 10, 2011 at her home. She was born March 29, 1958 at Logan Co., WV. The daughter of the late Frank and Irene Casey Socosky. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Melvin and Jimmy Socosky. She was a homemaker. Ethel is survived by her lifelong companion, William Clinton Ellis. Sons, Larry Hager and Richard and William Ellis. Brother, Don Socosky of Michigan. Sister, LaDonna Williams of Logan, WV and Special Aunt, Esta Burgess of Amherstdale, WV.
