Zach Hatfield, a Belfry High School freshman, has been hospitalized for months after being diagnosed with leukemia and suffering from a heart attack this past summer.  His friends have tried to remain in contact with him throughout his illness on the web via Facebook and MySpace.  Recently, the students of Belfry Middle School wanted to let Zach know just how much they missed him by orchestrating their own web-conference between the school and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  The event took place in Ms. Kim Meddings’ fourth period class at Belfry Middle School yesterday.  All students had an opportunity during lunch to stop by and say, “Hi,” to Zach and his family.

The article about Zach is great. He appreciates

hearing from his many friends in the area. Zach

is my grandson and he is a fighter and we are so

thankful for his progress. Zach's father, Todd

Hatfield, is my son. He lives in Varney, WV. I

was a life long resident of Varney until 1982 when I and my family moved to North Carolina where we still live. I want to thank everyone

for their support and prayers for Zachary.

Thank you, Rachel Hatfield Runyon
