Girlfriend claims self defense in man’s shooting death

DAVIN - A woman is claiming self defense was shot Sunday just before noon in the shooting death of her boyfriend. George Bowens, 36, of Mallory, was found dead of a gunshot wound just before noon at Davin on Rt. 10 on Huff Creek, just four miles outside of Man.

The 911 call came in at 11:40 a.m. and when police arrived at the scene they found Bowen dead. His on-again, off-again, girlfriend, Venus Parton, 36, told police she shot Bowen in self defense after he broke in her house.

Police are still investagating. Police say the couple had a history of domestic violence. Charges could be filed if police determine Parton din not act in self defense. Police are processing the crime scene and gathering evidence about the relationship between Bowen and Parton.

The house where Bowen was shot is next door to the old Sweet Pea Resturant at Davin on Huff Creek in the Man area.

re first para, first sentence...who shot that woman? Well, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't grow stone on a moss. Lot of folks out of work...wonder why the WDN doesn't hire a proof reader? Well, gotta go feed an elephant to my rattlers...getting ready for sunday services.
