The repairs for Gilbert High School after May’s flood are ahead of schedule.
Gilbert High School Principal Daniel Dean stated that the target date for repairs was Aug. 19, however after a contractor’s meeting held yesterday, Dean learned that crews were ahead of schedule.
“The school had extensive damage before construction,” said Dean. “The contractors have really done a great job and their should be no problem with us returning on schedule.”
The school’s gym floor is being installed this week, when completed it will feature a lion’s head design in the center. All the wooden bleachers are being replaced with new purple bleachers.
Approximately 17,000 ft. of tile has been replaced including all the hallways, cafeteria and the commons’ areas with tile that shows school spirit with a special purple Gilbert High logo .
In the newer section of the school, all the carpet has been replaced in the hallways and classrooms.
Dean stated that all that the contractors have left to do is install new kitchen equipment, complete the drywall in the office area and install a little more carpet.
Teachers are scheduled to return to school on Aug. 21, and students will return on Aug. 26. For more information on school openings visit the Mingo County Board of Education’s Web site at www.mingoboe.us.
