Two men received prison sentences and a third man entered a guilty plea to a felony charge in Mingo County Circuit Court Monday.
Chief Judge Michael Thornsbury sentenced Roger Wayne Ellis, 28, of Baisden, to a term of one to 10 years in a state correctional facility in connection with Ellis’ plea of guilty to grand larceny.
Ellis was indicted by the September 2009 grand jury on charges of burglary and grand larceny during a break-in of Gary Carson Cline’s dwelling house Feb. 16, 2009. Ellis pleaded guilty Nov. 9 to grand larceny of tools and other items.
He was represented by Logan Attorney Mark Hobbs. Assistant Mingo County Prosecutor Glen Rutledge appeared for the state in Ellis’ hearing.
Rutledge also represented the state in the proceeding for Atlas Spradlin, 47, of Ragland. The defendant pled guilty Nov. 9 to a firearms possession violation and on Monday received a definite term of one year in prison. That sentence will run concurrently with another sentence he is serving on a probation violation. Spradlin was represented by Williamson Attorney Kathy Cisco-Sturgell.
In a third proceeding Monday, Thornsbury accepted a plea of guilty from David Lee Manns, 25, of Delbarton, for grand larceny of an ATV owned by John D. Marcum. Manns, who was represented by Diane C. Wiedel, is to be sentenced at 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2010. Assistant Prosecutor Teresa D. Maynard represented the state in this hearing.
