GOODY, Ky. – The “Battle of the Mountains Bowl” game featuring two of eastern Kentucky’s finest high school football programs will be played Friday night at CAM Stadium.
The Belfry Pirates will entertain Harlan County. The contest is sponsored by ARH, which has facilities in both communities.
A championship and runner-up trophy, as well as game MVP awards, will be presented at the end of the game by ARH officials.
Belfry (1-0) is coming off a good win over Class 6A Henry Clay of Lexington in their season opener last week.
Harlan County (1-1) is coming off a 51-14 win over Clay County, however the Bears lost to Lexington Bryan Station 56-22 in their opener.
Harlan County, a class 5A school, is ranked 10th in this week’s Kentucky prep poll.
Belfry is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in the prep poll.
The Pirates will have senior Keaton Taylor at quarterback, while senior Austin Hatfield leads a covey of talented backs. Others that should get carries out of Belfry’s backfield are juniors Xondre Willis, Deonte Joplin and Kaleb Edwards and sophomores Andrew Fletcher and Noah Corbett.
Sophomore Cameron Catron was injured in the Henry Clay game and will miss at least a month with a broken collarbone.
Along the front is Austin Gibbs, Mackey Francis and Drew Mullins who anchor the offensive line.
Sophomore Austin Woolum will kick the field goals and extra points.
Harlan comes into Belfry with a huge roster and some experienced players.
ARH will have some fun things for the fans including ice cream, prizes and other events around the game. Several ARH staff members and physicians will also be present at the game.
The kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
