MAN — The host Man Little League All-Stars rolled to a 19-4 win over Delbarton on Saturday evening during the first day of the District 2 Little League Coach Pitch All-Star Baseball Tournament at Man’s Tommy Keffer Field.
Man, which reached last year’s District 2 championship game in the Coach Pitch 7-8-year-old tourney at Chapmanville, led Delbarton 4-1 after one inning, 11-3 after two and 17-4 after three. Man then plated two more in the fourth and held Delbarton scoreless in the top of the fifth.
James Scites was 2-for-4 at the plate for Man as he hit two inside-the-park home runs.
Bo Thompson was 4-for-4, while Drake Veres, Bradley Brower and Jacob Bartram were each 3-for-4. Jayden Brumfield went 3-for-3, while Braxton Messer, Hunter Gibson and Brayden Compton had two hits each. One of Compton’s hits was a double.
Kaden Dickerson added a hit for Man.
Delbarton was led by Malaki Sheppard, who was 3-for-3 with a homer. Chaz Waine was 2-for-3. Willie Hall, Alex Muncy, Kaleb Dempster, Kaden Gilman and Isaih Fouch added one hit each. Hall is the son of former Tug Valley High School all-state baseball player William Hall.
Delbarton lost on Monday night to Tug Valley, 18-9, in pool play. TV is 2-1, while Delbarton is 0-2.
Chapmanville was slated to play Pineville in Monday night’s other game.
District 2 tourney play continued on Tuesday as Delbarton played Pineville and Welch took on Mullens.
MAN — The Madison Coach Pitch All-Stars easily defeated Mullens, 20-1, on Saturday afternoon in the District 2 7-8-year-old All-Star Baseball Tournament at Man’s Tommy Keffer Field.
Owen Adkins was 4-for-4 with two homers for Madison. Matt Frye and Hunter Null were each 4-for-4 with a homer and a triple, while Austin Light was 3-for-4 with a double.
Aidan Savage, Luke Knight and Cooper Vint had two hits each. Lincoln Byrnside, Gunner Flores, Easton Fowler and Brayden Queen all had one hit each.
Turtle Simmons was 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Mullens. Ryan Mills and Jarred Phillips had one hit apiece.
* In Saturday’s other Coach Pitch All-Star game at Man, Welch beat Sandy River 20-2.
MAN — The Man 7-8-year-old all-stars swept past Pineville 19-8 in Sunday’s nightcap of the District 2 Tournament at Man’s Tommy Keffer Field.
Man improved to 2-0 in the tournament and stayed in first place of Pool A, one-half game ahead of Chapmanville (1-0) and a game in front of Tug Valley (1-1).
The Man All-Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Pineville.
Bo Thompson had a two-run double to make it 2-0. Pineville (0-2) then answered to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to four Man errors. Brady Morgan had the big blow — a two-run single.
The Man All-Stars then scored three times in the top of the second frame to take the lead back at 5-3. Jayden Brumfield had an RBI double to tie the game up at 3-3. Bradley Brown later laced a two-run single to put Man up 5-3.
Pineville cut it to 5-4 in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single off the bat of Morgan.
Man then pulled away in the top of the third inning of play, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring six runs to take a commanding 11-4 lead and never looked back. Braxton Messer had a two-run double during the frame. James Scites, Brown and Brumfield all had RBI hits. Thompson also had a two-run double.
Pineville added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Man lead to 11-6.
Man then added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it 14-8. Ben Vest, Braden Compton and Brumfield had RBI hits in the inning.
The Pineville All-Stars added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 14-8.
However, Man busted the game wide open with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 19-8 lead. Drake Veres had a two-run triple to make it 16-8. Jacob Bartram added an RBI single and Compton had an RBI ground out to increase the margin to 18-8. Man scored its final run as Messer reached on an error to up the margin to 19-8.
Man then got Pineville out in order in the bottom of the fifth inning as the game was halted due to the mercy rule.
In other District 2 games on Sunday, Madison (2-0) defeated Welch (1-1) by a score of 22-8 in Pool B. Mullens also improved to 1-1 in Pool B play with a 16-15 victory over Sandy River (0-2).
Tug Valley lost 20-19 to Chapmanville in Pool A action.
