PAINTSVILLE, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates nipped the Paintsville Tigers 3-1 on Thursday evening at the PHS field.

Belfry took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a 2-out double by senior Joey Duty. Reed Williamson, who had reached safely on an error by the right fielder, scored.

Belfry scored another run in the 3rd inning. With two outs, Garrett Fannin singled to deep short, then Duty singled to center field and Williamson sliced an RBI single to center.

Up 2-0, Belfry tacked on another run in the 4th frame. Trenity Carr led off with single to deep short and then Aaron Taylor walked. Jacob Francisco reached safely on Fielder’s Choice and Carr scored on an error by the third baseman, who dropped a throw from pitcher.

Paintsville scored their only run in the 5th inning. With 2 outs Luke Daniels singled to center field and B. Daniels smashed an RBI double to right field to cut the lead to 3-1.

Zac Fields got the win on the mound improving to 6-2 on the season. He pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and only walking one. He hit one batter.

Belfry was to play at home Saturday against Prestonsburg in a game originally scheduled for May 6.

The home game with Paintsvile scheduled for May 8 has been dropped from the schedule.

They are scheduled to play district rival Pike Central on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
