Belfry 4, Pikeville 2

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates defeated regional rival Pikeville 4-2 in the first game of the Panther Classic baseball tourney on Friday.
The game started out slow for Belfry as they went 3-up and 3-dowin in each of the first 3 innings. This extended a stretch of 10 perfect innings by Pikeville pitchers against Belfry.
Jacob Hamilton pitched perfect game against Belfry at Pikeville in April 2013, striking out 19.
But in the Belfry 4th frame Keaton Taylor doubled and then Garrett Fannin sliced an RBI single to center field to give the Pirates at 1-0 lead. Then Joey Duty had an RBI double to right centerfield to add another run. Then it was Zac Fields turn as he cracked an RBI double to left center as the Bucs took a 3-0 lead.
The Pirates got an insurance run in the 6th inning. With one out, Duty singled to right, Fields also singled to right (Nate Sanger came in as a pinch runner for Duty) and Reed Williamson stroked an RBI single to left to give BHS a 4-0 lead.
Pikeville got one run in the 6th as Cody Estep reached 1st base on an error. Payton Hamilton was safe on another throwing error by BHS. Estep was then caught stealing at 3rd, thrown out by Caleb Stanley to Aaron Taylor. Then Jacob Hamilton had a single to left field. P. Hamilton scored on a sac fly by Austin Salyer.
In the bottom of the 7th for Pikeville, they added one more run when Tanner Thompson led off with single to left and went to 2nd base on a wild pitch. Clay Slone then smacked an RBI single to left.
Keaton Taylor picked up the mound win for Belfry, while Mikey McDonald was the hard-luck loser for PHS. Taylor struck out 8 batters, only walked one and gave up one earned run. Both starters pitched complete games.

Belfry 12, KCD 1
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Belfry topped Kentucky Country Day (KCD) 12-1 on Saturday.
Keaton Taylor got it started with a bunt single and stole both 2nd and 3rd base. Joey Duty RBI single to center. After singles by Reed Williamson and Dustin Jewell to load the bases, Trenity Carr walked to bring in a run.
KCD got a run in the 1st frame when Zack Lyles reached safely on a strikeout-error. Then with 2 outs, after Lyles stole 2nd base, Casey Klein had an RBI single to right center to make it 2-1
In the Belfry 2nd inning, Caleb Stanley reached base on an error, K. Taylor singled to left, Duty cracked a 2-run double to right and Zac Fields smashed an RBI double to left.
Belfry added 2 more runs in the 4th when Fields led off with double to left (Nate Sanger came in as a courtesy runner); then Jewell sliced an RBI double to center field. Jewell scored when Carr beat out an infield hit and the infielder had a throwing error.
In the 5th Belfry’s K. Taylor singled to left for his 4th hit of the game and then stole2nd base. He then scored on error by the 3rd baseman with Fields at bat.
Belfry added 4 more runs in the 7th frame. K. Taylor was hit by a pitch, but forced out at 2nd on Garret Fannin grounder to the 3rd baseman.
Duty was hit by a pitch, Fields smashed another RBI double (his 3rd of the game) and Williamson cracked a 2-run single to center. Then Carr lined an RBI triple to left.
Fields was the winning pitcher with a complete game 3-hitter. He had 8 strikeouts.

Paintsville 10, Belfry 4
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Tiger of Paintsville walloped Belfry 10-4 in the finale of the Panther Classic.
Belfry had an early 1-0 lead. In the 1st inning, K. Taylor walked, Fannin had a sac bunt sending Taylor to 2nd base. Then Taylor stole 3rd and scored on infield grounder by Fields.
Paintsville rallied for 8 runs in the 2nd inning. As a team they had 4 doubles and a triple off Duty, among the 8 hits in inning. However, Belfry had 2 errors that were costly as 5 of the runs (all off Duty) were unearned.
Belfry got another run in the 5th as K. Taylor singled to right and scored on double by Duty. Duty then scored on single by Williamson.
Paintsville added an insurance run in the 6th.
In the Belfry 6th inning, with 2 outs, K. Taylor reached safely on an error by the right fielder. He scored on RBI single by Fannin.
Paintsville picked up another run in the 7th for the final margin 10-4.
Duty picked up the pitching loss, while K. Phelps was the winner for the Tigers.
