WILLIAMSON – The Belfry Pirates jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning and led 18- 0 after the 3rd frame as they went on to crush Mingo Central 24-11 in five innings Thursday evening at Lefty Hamilton Park in West Williamson.


Seniors Trenity Carr and Reed Williamson led the way for Belfry with home runs. Carr’s blast left Jim Van Zant Field and sailed over the left field fence, while Williamson smashed a gapper into right centerfield and raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer.


Belfry hitters pounded out 23 hits against the Miners starter.


Dustin Jewell, the winning pitcher, helped his own cause with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Garrett Fannin, Blake Charles, Zac Fields, Dakota Fannin, Nate Sanger and Williamson each had 2 hits. Fields, Jewell, G. Fannin, D. Fannin and Caleb Stanley each smacked doubles. Several other players had one hit.


Joey Duty had one hit and three RBIs, while R. Williamson knocked in four runs.


The Pirates rallied for five more runs in the 4th inning.


BHS Coach Michael Hagy called off the dogs by pulling some of his starters in the 3rd inning.


Mingo Central scored a run in both the 3rd and 4th innings, and scored nine in the bottom of the 5th inning.


Jewell is now 3-1 on the mound. He had 8 strikeouts and only walked one batter in four innings. Garrett Fannin pitch the last inning.


Caleb Spencer took the loss on the mound for MCHS. He also had two hits including a double and a couple of RBIs. Tyler Harrison also had a pair of hits including a double and RBI. Todd Slone had two hits for the Miners.


Harrison pitched the last inning for Mingo.


The Pirates are now 12-7 on the season, while Mingo Central is winless. Both teams were scheduled to play in a tourney on Friday and Saturday. Mingo Central will play at Prestonsburg and Belfry at the Pikeville tourney.
