GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates rolled over the visiting Phelps Hornets 11-1 for a 60th District win on Wednesday evening at the BHS baseball field.

The game lasted only five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Belfry took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Keaton Taylor walked, then stole 2nd and 3rd base and scored as Joey Duty lined an RBI single to left field.

In the Belfry 2nd inning, Trenity Carr walked, then Garrett Fannin sacrificed Carr to 2nd base and designated hitter Jacob Francisco smacked an RBI triple to left field. Then Caleb Stanley stroked an RBI double to left to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

Belfry rallied for five more runs in the 3rd frame. Dustin Jewell walked and went all the way to 3rd base on wild pitches. Then Fannin slashed an RBI double to left to score Jewell. Francisco followed with a walk, then Stanley lined a 2-run single to left field for two more runs.

Taylor then beat out bunt single to reach first base. Reed Williamson grounded a single to right field. Duty was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Zac Fields then brought in two more runs with a single to left to give BHS an 8-0 lead.

Phelps scored its lone run in the top of the 4th inning. Bailey Hurley singled to left, and then Dalton Prater also singled to left field. Then with Kyle Sneed at bat, Hurley scored on wild pitch by Aaron Taylor.

Belfry tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. K. Taylor was hit by a pitch and then stole 2nd and 3rd base. Williamson cracked an RBI single to left field. Tyler Fields came in as a pinch runner and Duty smacked a double to center field. Blake Charles also came in as a pinch runner for Duty. Then Jordan Meddings worked a bases loaded walk to bring in a run as Fields scored. With the bases loaded, Fannin was hit by a pitch to bring in Charles, and that run ended game.
