Mingo Central 4-sport athlete Alex “Booger” Lee has been named to the South Roster of the annual North-South All-Star Football game to be played at Laidley Field in Charleston in June.

Lee, who was a Class AA All-State selection, has signed to play football at Concord College in Athens, W.Va.

“I’m very proud to represent the South. I’ve watched the game on the sidelines for years and now I actually get to play in it is a true honor,” Lee said. “I can’t wait to get back on the field and start catching footballs again.”

Mingo Central head coach Yogi Kinder is proud that Lee was named to the team.

“This is a great honor for any high school player to be picked to play in this game. This is the best from the North and the best from the South going head to head against each other,” Kinder said. “It’s the best 35 players, is is quite an honor to be chosen.”

“We’re happy he is representing our school. Alex has worked very hard on becoming a good player. He is a very skilled player and he has good speed. But most of all is his attitude. It has really improved toward football. That has made him work really hard in the last couple of summers. He has been the best skill player we’ve had at Mingo Central. He will be very hard to replace.”

Lee played on both sides of the ball for the Miners. He was a wide receiver, defensive back and also a big contributor on special teams. He was the MCHS punter, returned both punts and kickoffs and also carried the football a few times as a halfback.

Lee was selected as a defensive captain of the Class AA All-State second team this season. Lee made the second team as a defensive back. The speedy 6-4, 175 pound senior could have made the team as a split end too. He was one of the top receivers in the state.

Lee not only played football at MCHS, but was a standout basketball player, baseball player and sprinter on the track team. He is currently participating in both track and baseball this spring.
