The West Virginia roster for the upcoming Consol WV-KY Senior All-Star game is already loaded with talent.

Several of these young ladies have received scholarships to play college basketball. There are also several all-state players on the squad.

Coach Shannon Lewis, of Huntington St. Joe, who has guided his Lady Irish to six straight Class A state titles, will have a couple of his own players on the squad.

Rachel Lee and Asia Petitte have both committed to play in the game. Petitte will be heading to Evansville University to play college basketball next fall. Lee was a first team All-State selection, while Petitte was a third team selection.

Three Class AA All-State players will suit up for the Mountain State. They are Ali Whitman of Scott, Kristen Desrocher of Chapmanville and Savannah Winnett of Tolsia. Whitman has signed to play at D-1 UNC Greensboro and Desrocher for Glenville State.

Hannah King of Herbert Hoover is on the roster along with Hannah Armstrong of Tug Valley. Armstrong is a 3-time WDN All-Area team selection.

Mariah Callen of University High, who will play at Wheeling Jesuit next year, is also on the roster.

Three other players added by Coach Lewis late Friday afternoon were Danielle Brown from Westside, Faith Davis of Westside and Sierra Jordan of Cabell-Midland. All were integral parts of their respective teams in the 2013-14 season.

Davis was a Class AA All-State selection for the Lady Renegades, while Brown was on the honorable mention list.

Brown helped Westside win the Class AA state championship.

The game will be held at Mingo Central High School on Saturday, April 19. The girl’s game will tip off at 6 p.m., while the boy’s will start at about 8 p.m. A 3-point shooting contest and dunk contest will be held between the two games.

(Note: Mingo Central did not have any seniors on their roster this season, so they will not have a representative on the squad.)

SHORT STUFF: Marshall’s annual Capital Classic basketball game versus West Virginia tips off next season on Sunday, Dec. 14. It’s the third straight season the game will be played in December.

… WVU Tech Interim Director of Athletics, Kenny Howell, has announced the appointment of Ashley Ziegle as head volleyball coach. Ziegle will take over the reins of the Golden Bear program effective, April 4.
