GILBERT - The Mingo Central men’s and ladies tennis teams went undefeated in their first ever home matches against River View on Wednesday at the Harless Center in Gilbert.
In the ladies competition, the No. 1 seed Emily Hatfield won 8-2, No. 2 seed Maria Ramey won 8-Love, No. 3 seed Taylor Blevins won 8-5, and No.4 seed Megan Taylor won her match 8-Love.
Julianna Music won an exhibition match 8-2.
In doubles action the duo of Hatfield/Ramey won 8-0, the team of Blevins/Taylor won 8-2 and doubles team of Kaitlyn Johnson and Ariel Ritchie also won 8-2.
In men’s action, No. 1 seed Julius Hatcher won 8-Love, No. 3 seed Brennon Slone also won 8-0 and Dakota Rawls won his match 8-1.
The No. 2 seed Kyle Surber was leading 3-0 but the match was suspended because of weather conditions.
In the men’s doubles action Hatcher/Surber won 8-Love, Slone/Rawls won 8-2 and Joey Wellman and Steven Clark playing their first match of the season won 8 -4.
“This was an awesome day for our kids playing a home match,” said coach Julius “Boo” Hatcher. “We had a great turnout and the facilities, the court, the lights were all were just wonderful.”
“The Mingo Central tennis program would like to thank all that had a hand in making our first home match a success, and a special thank you to the staff of the Larry Joe Harless Center,” Hatcher added.
Mingo Central’s next match is away at Sherman, weather permitting.
