DELBARTON – The Lady Miners of Mingo Central jumped out to an early lead on Tug Valley and captured a 13-3 victory on Monday at the Delbarton Field.


MCHS scored 13 runs in the first three innings, allowing the Lady Miners to put the game away early.


An RBI single by Kiearia Hammond, a two-run single by Tiffany Cottle, and an RBI triple by Haley Johnson during the first inning got things rolling.


An RBI single by Kristyn Johnson, an RBI double by Elizabeth Hatfield, and an RBI double by Hammond in the 2nd inning supplied the early offense for MCHS.


Hatfield went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for the Lady Miners.


Kara Lester got it done on the rubber to pick up the win for Mingo. She pitched two shutout innings. She struck out four, walked one and surrendered only two hits.


The Miners pounded Tug Valley’s pitching, as seven hitters combined for 12 hits, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.


Brittany Shrum took the loss on the mound for the Lady Panthers. She allowed 13 runs in three innings, walked nine and struck out none. Shrum and Olivia Ooten had hits for TVHS.


The Lady Miners answered Tug Valley’s early rally with three runs of its own in the 2nd frame.


Mingo Central built its lead with five runs in the third. Makenna Pinson kicked things off with a single, scoring Brittany Stiltner. That was followed up by Hatfield’s single, scoring Tori Varney.


MCHS (2-1) was scheduled to play Scott on Tuesday, weather permitting. They will travel to Chapmanville on Thursday.


TVHS (0-1) was scheduled to play at Phelps, Ky. on Tuesday and will travel to Charleston Catholic for a double header on Thursday.
