GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates jumped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and held on to defeat Betsy Layne 9-2 Thursday evening at Massey Energy Field located on the campus of BHS at Goody, Ky.

Junior Keaton Taylor got things started off with a single and he advanced to 3rd base on throwing error.

Then Garrett Fannin singled in Taylor, Reed Williamson was hit by a pitch and Fannin stole 3rd. Williamson then scored on RBI grounder to 2nd base by Joey Duty.

Trenity Carr was also hit by a pitch to take first base. He then stole 2nd and Dustin Jewell smacked a 2-run single to center field.

Zac Fields then walked and Caleb Stanley became the third Pirate to be hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Then Aaron Taylor got an RBI walk, followed by Taylor who was safe on fielder choice. (Fields was thrown out at home).

Fannin then knocked in two more runs with a single, but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into double.

In the second for the Bobcats, Dustin Rogers doubled to right and then scored with two out on an RBI single by James Frasure.

In the BHS 2nd, Williamson was safe on error by the right fielder and then stole second base. He then scored on a single to left by T. Carr as the Pirates went ahead 8-1.

BLHS got another run in the top of the 4th inning. Brandon Akers singled to left, stole 2nd base and McKenzie Akers singled to left. Akers scored on a single to left by Peyton Case.

The Pirates tacked on another run in the bottom of the 5th. Fields reached safely on error by the 3rd baseman. Nate Sanger, who was pinch running, went to 3rd on a wild pitch. He scored on Sac-Fly by Stanley to give BHS a 9-2 lead.

Coach Michael Hagy’s team is now 4-1 on the season. They were scheduled to play at Boyd County on Saturday and host East Ridge on Monday. They travel to Phelps today, weather permitting.
