GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates rolled on the final night of the Mountain Schoolboy Classic as they pounded Tolsia 74-34 on Saturday night.


Garrett Fannin led the Pirates 16 points, while big Cole Bentley added 13, Dawson Isom 11 and Kaleb Edwards 10 to give BHS four players in double figures.


Stroud and Sturgill led the Rebels with 13 and 11 points respectively.


Belfry swarmed out to a 22-1 first quarter lead and led 46 to 12 at halftime. They continued to smother Tolsia outscoring the visitors 20-8 in the third quarter. The reserves finished up the game for Coach Mark Thompson’s squad.

Sheldon Clark 65, Jenkins 47


GOODY, Ky. – The Sheldon Clark Cardinals improved to 8-2 on the season after their third straight win in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic played at Belfry High School.


The Cards topped Jenkins 65-47 on Saturday night. They had previously defeated Tolsia and Boyd County in the round-robin tourney.


Dylan James led the way for Coach Frankie Smith’s team with 23 points, while Chase Parsley added 19.


Smith said he is proud of the way his kids played in the event, especially after tough loses to Knott Central and Morgan County prior to the Schoolboy Classic.


Sheldon Clark will play at Paintsville Friday, Jan. 3rd and Allen Central Saturday, Jan. 4th at the Expo Center in Pikeville, Ky. in the All ‘A’ Classic.

Pikeville Invitational Tournament


Phelps 71, June Buchanan 56


PIKEVILLE – Phelps used balanced scoring to turn back June Buchanan, winning 71-56 in the Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Dec. 27.


It was the first win in nine games for the Hornets while the Crusaders fell to 2-6.


Elijah Branham led the Hornets with 20 points while Matt Hatfield tossed in 18. Da’Von Smith had 10 and Dalton Wolford hit for 10.


Matt Kidd led JBS with a game-high 22 points.

PIKEVILLE – Letcher Central used a strong second-half surge to pull away and beat Phelps, 78-47, in the opening round of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Dec. 26.


Josh Owens poured in a game-high 25 points and Chippy Frazier added 14 as the Cougars improved to 5-5. Hunter Hall and Jordan Gregory tossed in 10 apiece.


Matt Hatfield led the Hornets (0-8) with 15 points. Leon Blankenship tallied nine.
