The Generals of Jackson County will march into CAM Stadium to take on the Belfry Pirates in first round Class 3A district playoff action in Kentucky Friday night.

The Generals are 6-4 and have a 3-game winning streak. Belfry is 9-1 and suffered its first loss of the season last week at the hands of Class 4A Johnson Central.

Jackson County is coached by Russ Shearer and play in District 7.

Belfry, coached by longtime mentor Philip Haywood, has been led by senior running back Trenity Carr, who scored three touchdowns last week in a losing effort against at tough JCHS team. Carr is second on the team with 653 rushing yards and leads the squad having scored 15 TDs so far this season.

Senior Justin Johnson, a speedy tailback, leads the team with 789 yards and has rushed for 10 TDs. Johnson has missed two games this season because of a shoulder injury.

Junior Austin Hatfield has rushed for 515 yards and a pair of TDs. He has been hampered by a bad ankle injury and has missed four games this season. But he is expected back this week.

With the injuries to Johnson and Hatfield, senior Davontae Dari has filled in admirably and has rushed for 338 yards and five TDs. Freshman Andrew Fletcher has seen action this season and has ran for 378 yards and four TDs. Xondre Willis, a speedy sophomore back, was lost for the season with a knee injury. He had also seen significant action, rushing for 207 yards and a couple of TDs. Willis was also used in the passing game.

Senior quarterback Sani Warren is a threat to run the ball and has rushed for 305 yards and eight TDs. Warren has passed for 683 yards, completing 41-of-72 passes for six yards and only three interceptions in 10 games.

Junior Keaton Taylor is the primary target for Warren. He has caught 33 passes for 489 yards and five TDs.

Freshman Austin Woolum has been near perfect with his PAT’s.

On defense, seniors Joey Duty and Hayden Hatfield lead the Pirates in tackles. Others who have been key on defense have been Dakota Stanley, Austin Hall, Cameron Catron, Michael Barnes and Zack Thompson. Freshmen Cole Bentley and Rayquan Horton have also been big on the defensive line. Warren, Taylor, Kaleb Edwards and Cameron Johnson are in the BHS secondary.

Belfry has scored 388 points this season and their legendary rushing attack has rolled up 3,314 yards this season.

If Belfry wins, Haywood will get career win number 300 during his 29-year Pirate tenure. He is the all-time winningest coach in Kentucky high school history.

Jackson County is 2-3 on the road this season and they are 4-1 at home.

Kickoff time is 7:30 on Haywood Field. The weather is expected to be clear, but cold, with temperatures in the lower 30s by game time.
