SOMERSET, Ky. – Belfry hits the road again this Friday as they travel to Pulaski County to take on Southwestern High School.

Southwestern is a public high school in Somerset, Kentucky, operated by Pulaski County Schools. Southwestern is a relatively new school, which opened its doors in the fall of 1993 to alleviate crowding at the district’s other high school, Pulaski County High School.

The Warriors are 0-3 so far this season with losses to Corbin, Knox Central and Somerset.

The Pirates are 2-0 and are coming off an impressive victory over Harlan County last week.

Belfry has rolled up 58 points in its first two games and allowed 24 points on defense. The potent running attack of head coach Philip Haywood’s squad has rushed for 647 yards. Belfry has only thrown for 97 yards, but does not pass the football that much.

Individually Belfry senior Justin Johnson has rushed for 253 yards and scored two TDs. Junior Austin Hatfield is next in line with 154 rushing yards, sophomore Xondre Willis has ran for 82 yards and a score, while freshman Andrew Fletcher has 76 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Senior power back Trenity Carr has 41 rushing yards and two TDs. Quarterback Sani Warren has rushed for 15 yards and thrown for 97 yards. He has rushed for a TD and has one touchdown pass. He has thrown one interception.

Keaton Taylor, a junior wide receiver, caught a 55-yard TD pass last week at Harlan County.

On defense, it has been a team effort for the Pirates. Warren and Kaleb Edwards each have one interception, while Fletcher has a fumble recovery. Hayden Hatfield and Joey Duty are the leading tacklers for the Pirates.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m., however there had been a rumor that the game started at 8 p.m. Coach Haywood wanted fans to note that this is a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, just like most other games.

The game can be heard on 93.1 FM with Bobby Norman and Steve Mickey handling the broadcast.
