PIKEVILLE, Ky. – It’s hard to believe but the Pike County Bowl is now 29 years old. Community Trust Bank held its annual press conference and luncheon on Tuesday in Pikeville with several coaches and media representatives in attendance.

The Pike County Bowl has now put back $693,000 into the community for those high schools who have participated in the football games over the years.

Besides the football game lineup, several of the queen candidates will compete for the title of Pike County Bowl Queen. The winner is presented with a $1,500 scholarship.

The past few years, a Legends Award has also been presented. The honor was created and given to someone who has made a difference in the lives of the youth that have participated in football.

Several of the Pike County Bowl Committee members were also in attendance, including Virgil Osborne, Ancie Casey, Jimmy Caines and others.

This year’s Legends Award recipient is current UPike coach Dudley Hilton. Hilton coached 38 years in high school at Breathitt County, Bell County and Bourbon County and has an impressive resume which includes three state championships. At one time he was the winningest prep coach in Kentucky history. He was passed by Belfry’s Phillip Haywood.

Hilton, who underwent heart bypass surgery last year, is coming back for his fourth season in Pikeville.

The lineup for the 2013 Pike County Bowl games was released by Community Trust Bank and there are several good games scheduled. They will be played at different locations over a 2-night period.

As usual, Belfry High School will host two games at CAM Stadium. On Friday, August 30, Henry Clay will take on Pike Central. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Then in the nightcap, the Belfry Pirates will play host to Somerset. That game is slated to kickoff at 8:35 p.m.

On that same evening, Shelby Valley High School will host a doubleheader. Paris will take on Shelby Valley at 6:05 p.m., while Betsy Layne is scheduled to take on Phelps in the second game at 8:35 p.m.

Then on Saturday night at Pikeville’s W.C. Hambley Athletic Complex, Hurley, Va. will take on East Ridge. Then in the second contest Pikeville will play host to Hazard.
