The Tug Valley Arts Council presents A Moment In Time: Tribute to Benny Goodman, Tuesday, September 24. 2013 at Mingo Central High School’s theater. The show starts at 7:00 p.m.

2013 marks the 75th anniversary year of what jazz historians have called “the most important jazz concert of all time”, Benny Goodman’s historic 1938 Carnegie Hall concert. The music was painstakingly researched by contacting Yale University (where Goodman’s archives are kept) and the orchestra reached out and partnered with former Benny Goodman alumnus Mr. Ken Peplowski from New York City, one of the world’s greatest jazz clarinetists, to be the featured soloist.

His performance of Benny’s music has been “blessed” by the Benny Goodman Estate. The Capitol Center Jazz Orchestra is the selected Orchestra. It is a distinguished group of big band veterans comprised of alumni from such well known orchestras as Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Artie Shaw, as well as the more recent Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band.

The Tug Valley Arts Council is bringing this iconic performance to the Mingo Central High School Auditorium on Tuesday, the 24th day of September at 7:00 pm. You do not need to be a member of the Arts Council to attend. Tickets will be sold at the door for $15 (age 18 and above) and $10 (for those under 18). The Sponsors for this concert are Mingo County Commission (Greg “Hootie” Smith-David Baisden-John Mark Hubbard); Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

This program and others are presented with the financial assistance of Arts and Humanities grants from the West Virginia Department of Culture and History, The National Endowment for the Arts, and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program. Further, partial funding is from a grant from the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, funded by the Heinz Endowment, the William Penn Foundation, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the Pew Charitable Trusts all administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
