CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Office of Disciplinary Counsel wants the West Virginia Supreme Court to suspend the law license of a prosecutor named in the latest corruption case against Mingo County Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury.
A petition delivered Thursday says Prosecutor Michael Sparks has engaged in a pattern of egregious misconduct.
It also says he appears unable or unwilling to represent the best interests of the people of Mingo County.
Sparks has denied any wrongdoing.
The petition says Sparks has been under investigation by disciplinary counsel since Thornsbury was indicted in a separate criminal case last month. He’s charged with trying to frame a romantic rival for crimes the man didn’t commit.
Thornsbury is now charged with participating in a scheme involving Sparks to protect the former sheriff from revelations he’d bought drugs.
