CHAPMANVILLE - In the second round of the Region IV, Section 2, Class AA women’s volleyball tournament Tuesday night, the Lady Miners of Mingo Central advanced to the championship game by defeating the Chapmanville Lady Tigers in three straight sets: 27-25, 25-17, and 25-19.


Sophomore Ashley Curry dominated the net once again with 15 kills in three sets. Junior Kiearia Hammond and sophomore Hannah Church added 3 each. Church lead the Lady Miners’ attacking game with 3, junior Brandi Cisco added 2, while Hammond, Curry, and senior Kristyn Johnson had one apiece.


Mingo Central’s win was capped by 16 unreturned serves, with Johnson accounting for 7 of those aces, Hammond 4, Church 2, B. Cisco 2, and sophomore Stacy Cisco 1.


Both the winner and runner-up of the sectional tournament will advance to the regional competition this Saturday, November 9th, at Nicholas County. Therefore, the Lady Miners have earned an automatic bid to the regional tournament with the win over the Lady Tigers.
