RED JACKET - The Lady Miners volleyball team earned two wins Tuesday night in a tri-match at the Mingo Central gymnasium. In the first match, the Lady Miners overcame a 22-25 first set loss to the Man Hillbillies to win the next two sets 27-25, and 25-22.
In the first match, sophomore Ashley Curry dominated the match with an impressive 14 kills; senior Kristyn Johnson had 5; junior Kiearia Hammond, 5; sophomore Hannah Church, 4; sophomore Stacy Cisco, 5; and sophomore Kara Lester, 1.
The Lady Miners served a total of 15 aces agains the Hillbillies. Hammond accounted for 5; Johnson, 3; S. Cisco, 1; and Brandy Cisco, 3.
In the second match, the Lady Miners earned the win in two sets over the Lady Raiders of Riverview, by scores of 28-26 and 27-25.
Church had 6 kills against the Lady Raiders; Johnson, 2; Curry, 2, and Hammond, 1.
With these two wins, Mingo Central improved its record to 19-10, and the tri-match marked the last home game of the 2013 season.
Seniors Kristyn Johnson and Tiffany Cottle were honored on senior night with a special video presentation and gifts from their teammates. Johnson was escorted across the court by her parents, Ronnie and Leasha Johnson of Williamson, and Cottle was escorted by her parents, Tommy and Lisa Cottle of Beech Creek.
