Mingo County Girls Middle School Tournament

NAUGAUTUCK – Kermit defeated Matewan 62-12 in a first round game to start the Mingo County Girls Middle School Tournament on Wednesday night.
K. Spaulding led the Blue Devils with 26 points, while S. Whitt added 13.

Lenore 40 Williamson 31
Lenore got past Williamson 40-31 in a hard fought game in first round action in the nightcap of the tournament’s first round.
Emily Colegrove fired in 18 to lead the Lady Rangers. Tommie Mounts and S. Yates chipped in 6 points each.
Katie Ball led Williamson with 12 points, while Bekah White chipped in 9 points.
Williamson came out with man-to-man pressure defense on Mounts and kept it on the whole time she was in. Colegrove was 16 of 24 from the foul line scoring only 2 from the field. Mounts fouled out with 5:27 left in the 4th. Felicity Runyon of LMS fouled out with 2:32 left in the 4th. Fallon Gallimore for the Lady Pack fouled out with 3:46 left in the 4th and Kaylee Geraldi fouled out with 1:36 left in the game.

Burch, the No. 1 seed, took on Lenore in semi-final action Thursday. Gilbert, seeded No. 2, will take on Kermit. The consolation and championship games will be played on Saturday morning at the Tug Valley gym. Trophies will be awarded at the end of the final game.
