BMS girls close out season with win

BELFRY, Ky. - The Belfry Lady Pirates finished up their season Monday night at the BMS gym with a 27-19 win over Pikeville in the consolation game of the Pike County Tournament.


The Lady Pirates had an outstanding season and came up one point shy of the the eventual tournament champions from Dorton 24-23 in the semi-finals. The BMS girls will lose five 8th graders off this years team and will return 4 starters next season.


The Lady Pirates 7th grade team won this years county title and should be the odds on favorite going into next season. The lady pirates were led offensively by Lena Hairston with 10 points. She was followed by Kailee Rash with 9 points. Lyndsey Miller, Taylor Maynard and Ariel Mounts each had 2 points in the contest.


In the rebounding department belfry was led by Rash and Maynard with 7 rebounds. Miller followed with 6 boards. Defensively BMS was led by Miller and Ariel Mounts with 4 steals each. Rash and Emily Deaton followed with 3 steals each. All five belfry starters received an individual award during last nights award ceremony.


Lena Hairston, Kailee Rash, Lyndsey Miller, and Emily Deaton each received the All-County award which is given out to the top 20 players in the county during regular season play.


Hairston, Rash and Taylor Maynard each received the All-Tournament award which is given out to the top 15 players in the Pike County tournament. These awards are voted on by opposing county coaches and totaled. Congratulations to all the BMS Lady Pirates on an outstanding season.
