Lady Panthers win opener in Class A sectional

NAUGATUCK – The Tug Valley Lady Panthers downed visiting Montcalm 53-25 on Monday night in the opening round of the Region 4, Section 2, Class A tournament.
Senior Hannah Armstrong scored 10 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had 3 steals for Tug Valley. Junior point guard Adreana Vance had 8 points, 5 steals and 7 rebounds for the Lady Panthers. Emily Baisden hauled in 12 rebounds for TVHS and chipped in 7 points. Madison May had 8 rebounds and added 4 points for TVHS.
Several players scored for the home team as they cruised to an easy win.
The game started out slow with Tug Valley leading 6-0 after one quarter of play, but they took a 22-6 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Panthers built onto their lead in the second half for the easy win.
The Lady Panthers advanced and were scheduled to take on Man on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. That game had been scheduled for Wednesday, but was changed to Tuesday, according to assistant coach Aileen Blankenship.
Tug Valley was only 4-12 at the free throw line for 33 percent, while Montcalm was 5-6 for 83 percent.
Stormy Carver led Montcalm with 8 points, while Alison Blevins added 6.
