GOODY, Ky. – The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Lawrence County 55-47 on Monday night at the BHS gym.

Junior Emily Baker once again led Belfry with 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Baker was 10-12 at the free throw line.

Candace Gilman and Paige Goff each chipped in 9 points, while Jaden Cisco added 7 for coach Kevin Deskin’s squad.

Belfry trailed after the first quarter 14-11 as LCHS hit a 3 at the buzzer to take the lead. The Lady Pirates took the lead at the half at 26-19 as Taylor Horton completed a conventional 3-point play with a put-back and a foul shot and Candace Gilman hit a short jumper to give the Pirates the advantage.

Belfry extended its lead in the third quarter outscoring the visitors 11-7, and held on in the final quarter for the win and improved to 12-13.

The game was sloppy in the first half as both teams committed several turnovers.

The Pirates were 16-29 from the floor for 55 percent, but 0-4 from behind the arc. BHS did shoot better at the free throw line as a team making 23-31 for 74 percent.

Lawrence County was led by Laiken Fitch who had 11 points, while Savannah Cyrus added 9 points.

Belfry will play host to Sheldon Clark on Friday. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. for the first game of the boys-girls doubleheader. Then they will turn right around and travel to Warfield, Ky. Saturday for a rematch with the Lady Cardinals.

The 60th District Tournament starts next week hosted by Pike County Central.

WELCH – The Lady Miners of Mingo Central ran past the Lady Knights of Mt. View 63-44 on Monday night in McDowell County.

Hannah Church led the way firing in 19 points, while junior center Ashley Curry led the way with 17 points and Kiearia Hammond added 13.

MCHS is now 10-9 on the season. Their next game will be tonight at Chapmanville and then Thursday at Sissonville. The Class AA sectional tournament begins next week at Logan. The pairings should be released this week.

MAN – Adreana Vance led Tug Valley with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists to help her team to a 71-67 victory over the Lady Hillbillies at the Man Fieldhouse on Monday night.

Hannah Armstrong scored 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, while Katie Robinson chipped in 12 points. Emily Baisden added 8 and Elizabeth Dotson chipped in 8 for the Lady Panthers.

Tug Valley was 23-44 at the free throw line for 52 percent, while Man was 19-35. For 54.

Tug plays at home Friday against Charleston Catholic at 5:30 p.m., while the Tug Valley boys play right after at 7:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for both teams.
