RED JACKET – The Mingo Central girls’ team remained undefeated with a 48-37 win over county rival Tug Valley on Monday night at the MCHS gym.

Tug Valley actually led 8-7 after a slow first quarter, but the Lady Miners came out strong in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Panthers 16-9 and take a 25-15 lead heading into the dressing room at the halftime.

The two teams played even at 12-12 in the third period, but Mingo Central outscored Tug Valley 13-8 in the final quarter to pull away.

Junior Ashley Curry led the Lady Miners with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while senior point guard Kaitlyn Day scored 14 points and dished out seven assists.

Junior Adreana Vance led Tug Valley with 16 points. Freshman Paeton Marcum scored eight points for the Panthers.

“We got good play from our guards,” Mingo Central head coach Clay Campbell said. “We are cutting down on our turnovers. Ashley (Curry) did a good job facing the basket.”

“We’re working hard and trying to improve,” Campbell added.

The Lady Miners have their work cut out for them as the play host to Cardinal Conference opponent Chapmanville tonight at home and they host highly ranked Scott on Thursday. Then Mingo Central will be playing in the Belfry High School basketball round robin on Saturday evening. The Belfry game was originally scheduled for Friday, but has been switched to Saturday.

Tug Valley is now 1-3 will travel to Lawrence County on Thursday.

GOODY, Ky. – The Lady Panthers or Pikeville ran past the Lady Pirates 49-31 on Monday night at the Belfry High School gym.

Emily Baker led Belfry with 10 points.

Rachel Potter fired in 15 for Pikeville, while Savanna Nunemaker had 16 points to lead the Lady Panthers.

Belfry (1-4)….10 8 6 7 – 31
