NAUGATUCK - The Burch Middle School Lady Bulldogs were crowned Mingo County Girls Basketball Champions by defeating the Kermit Lady Blue Devils 38-30 Saturday at Tug Valley High School.

Burch jumped out to a 9-6 first quarter lead behind 4 quick points by Shylah Goff.

Kermit’s Sydney Whitt had 6 first half points, including a 3-pointer in the final seconds to keep the Lady Blue Devils within striking distance.

Both teams had a defensive battle in the third, with Burch leading 23-17. After a series of made baskets by both teams to start the fourth quarter, Kermit’s Kendra Spaulding was able to close the lead to four, 34-30 behind a quick 6 points midway through the final quarter.

With less than two minutes remaining, Kaileah Williams hit a big three off of an out of bounds play, putting Burch up 38-30 and sealing the championship for the Lady Dogs.
