SYCAMORE ROAD - A Tuesday morning accident that occurred at the entrance of the road leading to the Mingo County Board of Education sent one driver to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

According to West Virginia State Trooper J.J. Dean III, shortly before noon on Tuesday, Richard Belcher of Ragland was traveling from Williamson on U.S. Highway 52 toward his home in a Chevrolet Silverado when Romaine Johnson, of Gilbert, driving a Ford Ranger, pulled across the highway into Belcher’s path while attempting to pull onto Sycamore Road (Cinderella Hollow). The collision sent both vehicles spinning around, ending up on the grassy knoll alongside of the entrance to the school board, the trooper said. Both trucks suffered substantial front-end damage, according to his report.

Dean stated in his report that Johnson failed to maintain control of her vehicle and failed to yield generally.

Belcher was taken to Williamson Memorial Hospital for evaluation, the trooper said. Johnson suffered a minor injury to her mouth but declined medical treatment, he said.

The Williamson Fire Department responded to the emergency call and administered patient care, traffic control and scene cleanup. Duba’s wrecker service removed the damaged vehicles from the scene.
