RITA - The access road for residents at Madison Creek is currently open. Over the past six months, several slides have blocked the narrow road, isolating the residents for hours, days, and even weeks, at a time. Now construction of a causeway to give residents another way out of their neighborhood is well underway.

Construction of the approach on the Madison Creek side has been placed, and by late Monday evening, two of the six - 12-foot diameter pipes for the causeway are expected to be in place.

The contractor is also starting fill operations on the W.Va. 10 side at Prince Street to prepare for placement of the fill for one of the abutments of the temporary bridge. Actual installation of the temporary bridge deck is expected to begin next week.

Construction of the temporary bridge is expected to be completed within a matter of weeks.

Because of the rain experienced over the past several days, additional gravel was placed on the current access road this weekend. Reports from residents indicate they are being cautious in their use of the road.

State Department of Transportation representatives are currently in the process of making appointments to speak with residents about the possibility of voluntary buyouts of their property.
