NAUGATUCK – Tug Valley High School got some good news from Superintendent of Mingo County Schools Randy Keathley this week.

A contract should be awarded in October for the new access bridge and associated roadway going across Pigeon Creek. Work should begin sometime in November. The project is scheduled to take about 12 months, barring any major weather issues or other unforeseen problems.

The new span will be from the area where the old Naugatuck Grade School used to be located over to an area near Tug Valley High School.

Then, if money can be raised, work could soon start on the new athletic fields for the Panthers. (See attached architectural rendering.)

Keathley signed an easement this week to allow the utility companies to begin work on relocating their lines.

“The utility companies will start work this month (August),” according to Keathley. “We will start seeing progress in regards to the construction of the bridge. That work should be completed sometime in September.”

Thus, some work is starting on this project. The Superintendent recently met with Chris Begley, Senior Project Coordinator for the West Virginia Division of Highways, to finalize the plans.

Ted Shriver, who is the principal architect for the project, was making sure the final designs match-up with the Tug Valley High School steering committee, according to Keathley.

“By mid-August, all of the right of ways should be finished to allow the DOH to start their surveys,” Keathley said.

“I want to thank those who have helped with this project, that has been in the works for more than a decade – if not longer,” Keathley stressed. “There have been countless local officials and community leaders involved in this process to get us where we are today.”

Keathley is very pleased to see that this important project is finally coming to fruition.

“This is good news,” Keathley concluded.
