GOODY, Ky. - Many shoppers were out in full force Thursday, taking advantage of the day-after-Christmas sales that were going on at many local businesses.
“It’s very simple, I like saving money,” said Gina Ramey, who was racking up on the half-price Christmas decorations and supplies on sale at the local Walmart Super Center, explaining that she does this every year.
“I always buy my wrapping paper, bows, nametags and other items while they’re half-price, and put them up for the next year,” Ramey said. “I also take advantage of the other items that are half-price, such as the cologne gift sets, candles, decorations and other holiday-related items. “I’m always here when the doors open on the 26th.”
“I love getting a bargain!” she said.
Ramey and her husband weren’t the only ones perusing the department store, as the aisles were crowded and sale items on display were being emptied at a brisk pace. Managers at Walmart said that the day after Christmas helps to boost their sales and also assists in clearing the store of the surplus of holiday items that were in stock.
The days that follow Christmas are also the time to catch many individuals standing in the return line at local stores to exchange items that either weren’t to their liking, or were the wrong color or size.
“That’s why I just give gift cards to my friends and family,” said Roger Dingess, who shook his head in disbelief at the number of shoppers waiting to exchange items or get a refund on their gifts. “That way, they can buy whatever they want and I don’t have any worries.”
Sales will continue at local department stores throughout the weekend, in hopes that the public will take advantage of the discount prices.
