NAUGATUCK – Tug Valley High School retired the jerseys of former All-state players Mikey Newsome and Austin Brewer on Tuesday night.
The ceremony was held at halftime of the game with Westside.
The two, who played together since grade school, are now playing hoops with the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston (UC).
The two drove down Corridor G for the ceremony, taking a break from studies and practice at UC.
Both Brewer and Newsome were Williamson Daily News All-Area first teamers. Brewer was the WDN Player of the Year in 2013.
Their jerseys were framed, along with a picture and their accomplishments and will be displayed in the TVHS cafeteria.
Also introduced were graduates Aaron Muncy and Corey Dillon, who were seniors on last year’s squad.
Principal Johnny Branch presented last year’s team with a new banner that will hang in the TVHS gym showing their 2013 Class A state title.
Two seasons ago, Tug Valley won the Class AA title.
