To start things off, the Pirates faced off first against a strong Eagles squad.
LCHS would strike pay dirt first when midfielder junior Trent Davis scored from an assist by Trevor Cercone at the 26 minute mark. The score at halftime was 1-0.
The duo would hook up again in the second but this time Cercone scored the goal on an assist from Davis at the 42 minute mark.
Soon after, at the 57 minute mark, Cercone would kick in another goal unassisted. The last goal came from Alex Murray with 5 minutes left in the game with the assist going to Cercone.
Belfry took 14 shots on goal while Johnson Central kicked an excellent 4 out of 10.
Big 6’3” JC goalie James Chaffins had 10 saves and Elijah Holzapfel, goalie for BHS had 5.
Belfry drops to 3-5-0 on the season and the Eagles go to 4-1-0.
The Lady Pirates ended the night against JCHS with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss. Olivia Ellis for the Lady Eagles scored unassisted at the 40 minute mark.
The Lady Bucs thought they had tied the score at the 76 minute mark when junior Caitlin Woolum kicked one home. But the goal was disallowed when Woolum was called for a foul.
Belfry had 23 shots on goal while JC had 7. The Lady Eagles’ goalie Amber Wilcox had 14 saves with Sami Freeman recording 2 for BHS.
The Lady Eagles are 3-2-0 for the season while the Lady Pirates drop to 1-6-1.
The Bucs and Lady Bucs are back in action at home against Paintsville Sept. 7. The girls’ game is set to start at 6 p.m. with the boys’ to begin at 8 p.m.
