Thelma M. VanHoose, 80, of Big Splint (Nolan), went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009. She passed away at the Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan.

Born October 28, 1929, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Ruben Hicks and Sally Prince Hicks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Ulyss Hicks, Warren Hicks, Robert Hicks and Dallas (Doc) Hicks.

Thelma was a homemaker and a most loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a members of the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church for 63 years.

Thelma is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ruben S. VanHoose, Sr., four children, Rev. Ruben (Leigh) VanHoose, Jr., of Big Splint, Wallace Ray (Shelley) of Rawl, Pam Green of Pikeville, Ky., and Koneta (Boyd) Parsley of Naugatuck; 10 grandchildren: Renee Maynard, Ricky Stephen VanHoose, Rhonda Hatfield, Marguetta Westfall, Wallace VanHoose, Jr., Roger Edward Green, Brian Green, Bradley Green, Rachelle Collins and Kristen Starr; and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she was proud of and loved very much.

Also surviving are one brother, Russell (Dorothy) Hicks of Wawaka, Ind., and one special nephew, Tommy VanHoose of Charleston, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Nov. 20 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a special service at 7 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., at the mortuary. The Revs. Ray Taylor, Earl White, Ron Sanger, Mike Smith and Johnny Taylor will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson is serving the VanHoose family.
